Playing on Survival

Playing on Survival

Survival is the open-world server: gather, build, claim land, level skills, and trade. Join it with /server survival from anywhere on the network.

This page covers Survival only. For things that work the same everywhere — the server IP, the whitelist, ranks, chat, and PigBot — see Playing on ChoiceCraft. For the island server, see Playing on SkyBlock.

How do I play Survival?

To play Survival, join with /server survival and begin the familiar open-world Minecraft loop: gather wood and food, make tools and shelter, mine for better materials, explore, and build a permanent base. The Overworld, Nether, and End are all open on hard difficulty.

When you find a place to keep, protect it with a land claim. Ordinary gathering, farming, fishing, crafting, building, and combat also level matching skills. Coins, /shop, and safe player trading are available, but they are optional conveniences rather than the goal of Survival.

  • /spawn — return to spawn
  • /help — browse the Survival help topics
  • /server hub — go back to the lobby

PvP is off, and anything you drop when you die is reserved for you — other players cannot pick it up. Use /unlockdrops if you want to let someone else take your items.

Survival gameplay is still being designed, so expect changes.

Survival: money, shops, and player trading

Survival has an optional economy for buying, selling, and trading useful items. It does not replace gathering or determine your progress.

  • /balance, /bal, or /money — check your Survival coins
  • /baltop — view the balance leaderboard
  • /shop — browse the server shop
  • /sell hand — sell a supported item you are holding
  • /sell all <item> — sell all plain copies of a supported item
  • /pay <player> <amount> — send coins to another player
  • /trade <player> — open a safe item-and-coin trade

The shop focuses on valuable gathered resources rather than basic blocks. Open it in game to see what can currently be bought or sold and at what price.

Survival money belongs only to Survival. It does not carry to SkyBlock, and Survival has no Empire Value or business licences.

Survival: claiming land

Claiming land stops other players building, breaking, or taking anything inside it. You can claim in the Overworld, the Nether, and the End.

Claim blocks

  • You start with 2500 claim blocks — enough for a 50x50 area
  • You earn 250 more for every hour you play, up to 200,000 saved up
  • /claimslist — your claims, and how many blocks you have spare
  • Claims never expire, and there is no limit on how many you can own

Making a claim

  • Place a chest and a 9x9 claim appears around it automatically
  • Otherwise hold a golden shovel, click one corner, then click the far corner
  • A claim must be at least 5 blocks wide and cover at least 100 blocks
  • Claims reach up to the sky and 5 blocks below the lowest point you selected
  • Hold a stick and click a block to see who owns the ground you are standing on
  • /extendclaim <blocks> — push the claim you are in further in the direction you are facing
  • /abandonclaim — remove the claim you are standing in and get every block back

Survival: letting other players into your claim

Trust commands control what other players can do inside your land claim on Survival. Run them while standing in the claim.

  • /trust <player> — build and break
  • /containertrust <player> — use chests, furnaces, and hoppers
  • /accesstrust <player> — use buttons, levers, gates, and beds
  • /permissiontrust <player> — share your claim with others
  • /untrust <player> — take access away
  • /trustlist — who currently has what
  • /subdivideclaims — split a claim into sections with their own trust lists

Survival: what a land claim protects

Inside a claim you own on Survival:

  • Containers cannot be opened by anyone without container trust
  • Fence gates, buttons, and levers need access trust
  • Wooden doors and trapdoors are left unlocked — put valuables behind a gate
  • Lecterns need access trust to read
  • Animals, horses, donkeys, and llamas cannot be hurt or taken
  • Explosions cannot damage claimed blocks
  • Fire does not spread or burn blocks inside a claim
  • Ender pearls will not land in a claim unless you have access trust there
  • Starting a raid inside a claim needs build trust

Use /trapped if you get stuck inside someone else's claim.

If you have been griefed, or something has gone missing from inside your claim, open a ticket in Discord with /ticket open — staff can look up who changed what.

Survival: homes

A home is a spot you save on Survival and teleport back to later.

  • /sethome — save where you are standing as your default home
  • /sethome <name> — save a named home, such as /sethome mine
  • /home — return to your default home, or /home <name> for a named one
  • /homes — list the homes you have saved
  • /delhome <name> — remove one

Every player can keep 5 homes at once. Once you have 5, delete one before setting another.

Homes are checked before you arrive. If a home has been buried, flooded, or opened onto a drop, the teleport is refused rather than killing you — so set homes somewhere you can safely stand.

You cannot save a home inside another player's land claim unless they have given you at least access trust.

Homes belong to the server you set them on. Homes on other ChoiceCraft servers are separate and do not appear here.

Survival: travel and teleporting

Getting around on Survival:

  • /spawn — return to spawn
  • /warps — the Survival destinations staff have set up
  • /warp <name> — visit one
  • /tpa <player> — ask to teleport to another player
  • /tpahere <player> — ask another player to teleport to you
  • /tpaccept or /tpdeny — answer a request
  • /tpcancel — cancel your outgoing request

A teleport request expires after 60 seconds, and there is a 10 second cooldown between requests.

Teleport requests only reach players on the same server as you. If someone is on SkyBlock or the Hub, join that server first.

Warps are per-server — a warp name on Survival does not exist on SkyBlock.

Survival: skills

On Survival, ordinary play levels up a matching skill. Higher levels mean better drops, faster work, and abilities you can trigger on demand.

The skills are mining, excavation, woodcutting, herbalism, fishing, taming, repair, salvage, smelting, alchemy, acrobatics, unarmed, archery, swords, axes, crossbows, tridents, spears, and maces.

  • /mcstats — all of your levels at once
  • /mining, /fishing, and so on — what that skill does and what you have unlocked
  • /mctop — the server leaderboard; /mcrank — your own placing
  • /mcability — turn ability activation on or off
  • /mccooldown — what is ready to use again
  • /xprate — whether an XP event is running

Abilities unlock as a skill levels up. Right-click with the matching tool in hand to trigger one. They run for a few seconds, then go on a cooldown of up to 4 minutes.

Skill ranks are laid out across levels 1 to 100. There is no hard cap on a single skill and no cap on your combined power level.

Survival: earning skill XP

Skill XP on Survival is slowed down on purpose so that levels stay worth something.

  • Most skills earn a quarter of the usual rate
  • Mining and excavation earn an eighth
  • Your first few levels in a skill come faster, to get you started

What gives no skill XP at all:

  • Mobs from spawners
  • Mobs from spawn eggs
  • Mobs that walked out of a nether portal

Breeding gives full XP.

So if your levels feel slow compared to another server, that is intended, and a mob farm built on spawners will not level your combat skills.

Survival: parties

Parties let you group up on Survival and share skill progress.

  • /party create <name> — start one; /party join <name> — join one
  • /p <message> — party chat, available straight away
  • /ptp <player> — teleport to a party member, once the party reaches level 2

Parties level up to 10 as their members earn XP. Unlocks along the way:

  • Level 2 — party teleport
  • Level 5 — alliances
  • Level 8 — item sharing
  • Level 10 — XP sharing

Sharing only reaches party members within 75 blocks.

The live map

The live map is a top-down view of the Survival world in a web browser. It redraws as the world changes, and shows where players and land claims are.

Claimed land is drawn on the map, which makes it a quick way to find open ground before heading out to claim somewhere of your own.

If you would rather not show up on the map, use /map hide. /map show puts you back on it.
